Presentation

The fourth edition of the Maxence Larrieu International Flute Competition took place from October 20th to 26th, 2019, at the “Conservatoire National à Rayonnement Régional Pierre Cochereau” in Nice.

The jury, presided over by Maxence Larrieu, consisted of:

Jaeyoung Bae – South Korea,
Emily Beynon – Great Britain,
Qiling Chen – China,
Niurka Gonzalez – Cuba,
Sarah Louvion – France,
Félix Renggli – Switzerland.

 

Program of the 4th Maxence Larrieu International Flute Competition:

First Round

1) G.P. Telemann: Fantasia No. 7 or 12

2) L. Lorenzo: Caprice No. 17 – excerpt from 18 Caprices (Non plus ultra del flautista)

3) Choose one of the three pieces below:
– E. Bozza: Image
– P.O. Ferroud: Toan-Yan – Excerpt from Trois pièces pour flûte seul
– S. Karg-Elert: Sonata Appassionata

4) Choose one of the three pieces below:
– L. Berio: Sequenza 1, for flute
– A. Delgado: The Panic Flirt
– T. Takemitsu: Voice

Second Round

1) Choose one of the two pieces below:
– W.A. Mozart: Rondo K 373
– W.A. Mozart: Sonata KV 13 in F Major

2) R. Schumann: Romanze No. 3 Op. 94

3) C. Debussy: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun

4) Choose one of the four pieces below:
– N. Bacri: Spring Sonata
– H. Dutilleux: Sonatine
– A. Jolivet: Le Chant de Linos
– F. Martin: Ballade No. 1

Final Round with Orchestra

1) T. Muller: Toscane (Commissioned for the 4th Maxence Larrieu International Flute Competition)
2) C.P.E. Bach: Concerto in D minor

 

The laureates

The laureates were accompanied during the final by the “Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice”, conducted by Frédéric Deloche.

Nina Pollet is currently the principal flute of the Garde Républicaine “Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine”, Silvia Rozas Ramalla is the principal flute of the Hanover Opera Orchestra, Alberto Acuna is the principal flute of the Staatskapelle Weimar Orchestra, Han Heewon is the principal flute of the Chemnitz Theatre Orchestra, and Olivier Girardin is the principal flute at the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra.
